The start of the 2020-2021 is here and I am preparing mentally and environmentally for this new school experience. My kid’s school district voted to attend 100% virtually. I am praying more, meditating more, and reading more to get mentally prepared for parenting virtual students.
To prepare environmentally, I am designing three spaces in the house for my husband and me and the kids to have spaces to do our work. I’ve worked from home in various forms for over a decade. My work often happened in coffee shops, libraries, or parks, but when I actually worked in my home, I was alone and enjoyed the complete silence of the house. This has all changed with COVID-19. Our learning and workspaces in our home environment have to align with our learning and working styles, so I am doing my best to design those spaces. (I’ll post pics on this site when the spaces are complete.)
Uncertainty
The pandemic, school openings, virtual school, safety, and mental health are issues I constantly discuss with family and friends. We all agree that there are so many unknowns about how the school year will unfold. The unknown often leads to uncertainty. Uncertainty often leads to confusion. Confusion often leads to fear. Fear often leads to distress.
In this time of uncertainty, I’ve seen a lot of distress. That’s why I have to tap into my relationship with God to find wisdom, understanding, peace, and hope. This relationship is the only way I’ve coped with all of the uncertainty.
To continue to build my relationship with God and to hopefully help others, I’ve written a series of prayers to help draw us closer to God as we begin this school year. The prayers are for teachers, students, parents, administrators, and support staff. I hope that readers find the prayers beneficial for the start of the school year.
This first prayer is a back to school prayer for teachers.
Prayer for Teachers
Dear God,
Thank you for being the Master Teacher. As I prepare to return to school, I ask for wisdom, patience, and resilience.
Teach me as I teach others. Lead me as I lead others. Help me as I help others.
Illuminate your guiding light as I plan lessons, master technology, provide carefully crafted instruction, counsel students, and teach.
May your light and love be reflected in my interactions with other teachers, students, parents, and school staff.
Grant me peace in this pandemic. Grant me confidence in my challenges. Grant me understanding in uncertainty. Grant me grace in my grievances. Grant me comfort in my challenges. Grant me safety in my service.
Thank you for hearing my prayer.
Amen.
