Back to School Prayer for Students

My son, Henry, wrote this back to school prayer for students.  This is the second prayer in a series of back to school prayers published on this site. The first one is a back to school prayer for parents.

He, along with about 70,000 other students in our community start school in about 30 days. This year, unlike any other year, millions of students are starting school virtually. He understands the challenges that come with this new experience for many students, so he wrote this short prayer.  He and I hope this prayer reaches every student that needs this prayer.

Why This Prayer

Before he wrote this prayer, he, his father, and I discussed what he thinks and feels about the upcoming school year, what his friends are experiencing, and difficulties many families are facing during this time of uncertainty. Many children’s normal routines changed during this pandemic, but the pressures of school success haven’t changed. This is why he wrote this prayer.

Back to School Prayer for Students

Dear God,

Thank you for this day. I come asking that you to lay a protective hand over all of the students returning to school. Protect the families that have lost jobs and homes. Please protect those who are going back to school from violence and sickness. Please provide students access to school supplies and other resources that help them keep their minds focused and their eyes opened.

Amen.
