Today’s guest post comes from Barbara Owens. Barbara, like many people, is grappling with her emotions surrounding the social unrest, injustice, and violence that is constant within the United States. She shares her “Random Thoughts” with us.
Random Thoughts by Barbara Owens
I am starting to question
Am I safe
In this America
Why am I questioning this now?
Do I not see
What could happen to me
Do I not have eyes to see
What is it about me
I’m confused, you see
I don’t understand, I’m just me
Who would have known, when I came to Be
I would be such a complexity
I still need to struggle
Just
To be Free
But that just it
It’s my complexity
What is it that you fear the most
Is it my Integrity
Or how the Earth moves when I speak
Or the moves that I make while you sleep
Shout out to Maya Angelou, she never missed a beat
My mind is a powerful muscle, you see
I keep it trained so that it can be a protector for me
That is Key
To train yourself with Almighty help
To be the best you can be
You and I know that thing you fear most
Is the very thing we can’t physically see
But yet it’s in rotation, as if
It’s a Necessity
It’s sad, it prevents you from Seeing me
But it’s your loss, not mine
I’m still leaving My Legacy
