In Memory of George Floyd

In Memory of George Floyd

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

George begging for his Mother

My Country Tis of Thee

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Sun revealing his deep fear

Sweet Land of Liberty

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Strangers pleading for his life

Of thee I Sing

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Police there cosigning his death

Land where my father’s died

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Cameras clearing all the lies

Land of the pilgrims’ pride

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Life leaving in broad daylight

From ev’ry mountainside

I lament for the dead

Crushed by the weight of a knee

Lord, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe

Let freedom ring!
